Reasons for Working at Estuary

Aside from the generous annual leave entitlements to all staff, plus 8 statutory UK Bank Holidays and care staff receiving and equivalent bank holiday allowance, there's lots of reasons for working with us.

Take a look below to see just a few...

Making A Difference

Working for Estuary gives you the opportunity to fulfil your career potential whilst making a real difference to the lives of our residents and people who use our services. We are committed to the provision of good quality housing, care and support services to meet local needs and to contribute to the development of sustainable communities.

Commitment to Equality and Diversity

We value inclusiveness, and we are committed to embedding equality and diversity at the heart of our work.  We aim to be an inclusive organisation, where individual differences are respected, where staff, people who use services, as well as their families and carers, are treated with dignity and on the basis of their merits, abilities and needs, and where everyone has a fair opportunity to fulfill their potential without suffering discrimination or disadvantage.

Our People

If you come to work for Estuary, you’ll find a diverse and multi-skilled staff team who are dedicated to providing a broad range of functions within the social housing sector. We believe in collaborative working and forming close links between departments in order to achieve common goals and improve our organisation.

Subsidised Parking Permit

If you’re based at our registered office, we’ll offer you a heavily discounted parking permit for one of Southend’s main central car parks, located at Warrior Square.  You can also use it at weekends too!
All essential car users working from our registered office receive a free parking permit.

Cyclescheme

As an Estuary employee, you’ll have the opportunity to sign up to Cyclescheme, the UK’s number one provider of tax free bikes for work.

Season Ticket Loans

You can also request an interest-free season ticket loan for public transport to help manage the cost of buying a monthly or yearly ticket for your commute to work.

Childcare Vouchers

We offer a childcare voucher scheme for parents paying for registered and approved childcare, offering a potential saving of up to £1,000 per year to help with your childcare costs.

Flexible Working

Estuary is committed to attracting and retaining a highly motivated and committed workforce.  All employees have the right to request a flexible working arrangement; requests will always be carefully considered and will be granted where possible.
Flexible working arrangements may include requesting part-time hours, compressed hours, working during term-time only or working from home.

Healthcare Benefits

Estuary is committed to staff wellbeing.

We offer:

  • a comprehensive occupational health service for all employees
  • a confidential employee assistance telephone line for advice and guidance on a wide range of personal matters for all employees and their families.
  • a health cash plan operated by BHSF which allows employees to claim money back for procedures such as dental and optical treatments, which helps to reduce the overall cost of your everyday healthcare. Staff are also given the option to make additional contributions to upgrade their health plans to also provide cover for their family members.

Training and Career Progression

Estuary is dedicated to investing in staff development. We provide a variety of training opportunities, including mandatory programmes for frontline staff; e-learning modules on a variety of topics; management development courses and fully-accredited qualifications for staff at all levels.
If you join Estuary, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your learning and development needs at your monthly supervision sessions and annual appraisal with your line manager.
There are also regular secondment and acting-up opportunities for existing staff where you would have the chance to broaden your skills by working in a different area of the business, or progress to a higher-level role.

Pension Scheme

Estuary offers access to the Social Housing Pension Scheme, which is administrated by the Pensions Trust and is the leading UK scheme for people working in Social Housing with over 58,000 members.
There are two pension schemes available for staff to choose from:

  • Career Average Related Earnings (CARE) 1/60th scheme  (8.5% employee contribution rate)
  • Defined Contribution auto-enrolment scheme (2% employee contribution rate)

While we automatically enrol our eligible employees into the defined contribution scheme, all permanent employees also have the opportunity to join the CARE scheme.
The benefits of this scheme include the ability to transfer your pension between employers, age-related contribution bands. Some include life assurance for your family and dependants, along with a generous employer contribution.
