Each year, we work with partners to organise a themed event around these areas.
Safety Day 2017
On 18 May 2017, we held the Safety Fun Day in Southend. This focussed around our efforts to provide safe support to our customers. We had representatives from various local health, social (and allied care) providers. This included the Essex Fire and Rescue service who brought along an appliance and crew for people to visit and to receive advice about fire safety and Essex police who gave advice about hate crime. The local domestic abuse service provided advice on healthy relationships and the Mayor of Southend attended.
Health & Wellbeing Day 2018
On 21 June 2018, we held the Health & Wellbeing Day in Southend. This focussed around our efforts to provide effective support to our customers. This event built on the success of the Safety day and was attended by around 100 customers and guests, including the Mayor of Southend.
There was a variety of food available including vegetarian options, samosas and healthy dessert tasters such as courgette cake, carrot balls and chocolate brownies and low-fat Eton mess. Our partners from the Essex County Council Quality Innovation team attended and brought a GERT suit to try on, which simulates the physical effects of ageing. There were also dementia and diabetes stands for people to learn more about these conditions. The smoothie bike proved very successful and promoted hydration, fruit consumption and exercise. The NHS screening van carried out some checks on our customers and staff. Photographs of the day including Oomph activities can be found here
