Black Inclusion Week, 11th- 17th May: Listening, Learning and Taking Action
Black Inclusion Week is a national awareness week which focuses on increasing inclusion, representation and opportunity for Black people in the UK.
It also emphasises the importance of creating spaces for honest conversations about lived experience, inequality and allyship.
Why is Black Inclusion Week important?
The initiative was founded in 2021 by Black Leaders, a community of Black professionals and allies who want to make positive and sustainable change in UK workplaces.
Action needs to be taken because the facts are stark:
- Black people are the most likely to have witnessed a racist incident at work, according to the Racism at Work in the UK (2021) report.
- 41% of Black and minority workers in the UK are suffering racism on the job.
- Two thirds of Black employees experienced racism in the workplace in 2021.
- In the Black women’s experience of sexual harassment in the workplace 2024 report, 73% of respondents said that they had been bullied or harassed, with 53% reporting that they had been subject to racist remarks or racist comments made in their presence.
As part of our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion for all customers and colleagues, Delta works to challenge discrimination, promote fairness and ensure dignity and respect for all. Our EDI Workplace Champions and Customer EDI Forums support this by helping to raise awareness, amplify voices and encourage ongoing learning across the organisation.
Black Inclusion Week is a reminder that diverse customer voices are vital. If you are a Delta customer and would like to share your experiences, insights or ideas, or if you would like to be involved in our EDI work through our customer forums, we warmly encourage you to get in touch with our Customer Engagement team. Your voice could really help to shape more inclusive services at Delta!
